Fibre to the Cabinet, Leased Lines & Ethernet First Mile

Business Fibre Broadband (Fibre to the Cabinet)

Norwich Telecoms are now able to provide its customers with business grade fibre optic broadband connectivity. The bar for affordable, fast broadband provision in Norfolk is finally being raised with the rollout of Fibre to the Cabinet offering both download and upload speeds many times greater than that of ADSL.

What is Fibre to the Cabinet?

Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) is fibre optic cabling installed between the telephone exchange and the street cabinets that contain the broadband equipment. From the cabinets businesses and homes are then linked by copper cabling for the final leg.

What are the benefits of Fibre to the Cabinet?

  • Speed – FTTC offers speeds of up to 76Mb download and 19Mb upload, with a minimum of 15Mb download.
  • Cost – FTTC offers many of the features of a dedicated leased line at a fraction of the cost. Applications – Additional bandwidth allows for faster applications such as Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), Video Conferencing, File Transferring (FTP), Voice over IP (VOIP) and cloud computing.
  • Added Value – On-going savings from utilising the available bandwidth for applications. SIP trunks can run over the fibre allowing for further savings on voice lines and calls.

Leased Lines

For scenarios where ADSL or FTTC are not fast or reliable enough, a Leased Line may be the best option for your business.

Norwich Telecoms can provide competitive pricing on Leased Lines and offer a full project management solution from planning right through to aftercare on-going support.

Why choose a Leased Line?

  • Reliability – Our Leased Line solutions are backed up by 99.99% uptime service level agreements (SLAs)
  • Speed – Symmetrical data bandwidths of up to 1GB up and down. Leased Lines offer a much faster alternative to FTTC or EFM.
  • Contention – Leased Lines offer a one to one connection which means that unlike ADSL or FTTC, it is uncontended.
  • Flexibility – Leased Lines can be used for a variety of applications such as Voice over IP (VOIP), File transfers (FTP), Streaming video, Cloud Computing, and Online Backups.
  • Support – Leased Lines are a fully managed service including router and 24/7 monitoring.
  • Unlimited Data Usage –Ideal for data intensive applications such as streaming and web hosting.

Ethernet First Mile

Ethernet First Mile or EFM is a cost effective alternative to a Leased Line. EFM utilises existing copper pairs rather than fibre to connect back to the exchange.

With EFM installations there are two options; 2 pair or 4 pair bonding of existing copper pairs. 2 pair offers lower bandwidth with 4 pair offering not only higher bandwidth but also the resilience of using multiple pairs. This can prove useful in the event of cable damage if only 1 pair of the EFM provision is damaged, reducing deliverable speed but still maintaining some service.

Why choose Ethernet First Mile?

  • Cost – EFM provisions can be considerably cheaper than Leased Lines
  • Speed – EFM connections can be installed much faster than Leased Lines
  • Speed – EFM provides symmetrical data bandwidths of up to 16Mb up and down.
  • Flexibility – EFM can be used for a variety of applications such as Voice over IP (VOIP), File transfers (FTP), Streaming video, Cloud Computing, and Online Backups.
  • Support – EFM is backed up by SLAs and 24/7 support.
  • Unlimited Data Usage – Ideal for data intensive applications such as streaming and web hosting.
